The Line Game - Practicing Present Perfect




Stand in Line
 Here is a nice game-like acticity to practice or contextualize present perfect and present perfect continuous in a personalized way.

Low intermediate +
Speaking/Listening/GrammarContextualizing/ personalizing language


1. Watch the movie and answer the following questions using one of the words below.

devoted, inspirational, commited, learning difficulties, state school, hostile, heavy, by...

What kind of teacher is she?
What kind of students does she have?
What is the school like?
What is the environment in class like?
How does the teacher help students connect?



Students _________________ (feel) restless for a long time.

A Beautiful Place I've Been to


1.
Have you ever been to a beautiful place?
How was the weather like?
How was the people like?
Would you go there again?
2. You will watch a scene about a person who arrives in a foreign country.


3.Read a description of the scene and spot seven defferences between the text and the scene.
Linda and her pet had a great time in Rio. They arrived during the day after a long trip by train. The weather was nice and hot; She was feeling well, but she was worried about the heat, so she put a lot of sunscreen on her face. Surprisingly, there weren't people on the beaches. When the car stopped, she got very surprised because people were wearing masks in the middle of the street! Her host told her about carnival, The second biggest party in the world. She was intrigued by a woman who was a professional performer. Linda was very excited about carnival and decided she wanted to join the crowd and dance too! The parrot, blu, made friends, and his friends told him that he didn't look like a foreigner. Blue came to Rio for carnival when is a good time to meet new people. The birds gave him a word of advice: Brazilian women don't respond well to a show of confidence. Everybody was really excited about being in such a great and colorful city!

4. Think about a place you have been to. Look at the sentences below and choose the ones that you could use to talk about your trip.

5. Find a partner and expand a little on the sentences. Tell him as many details as you can.

Happiness Project in a Lesson


This lesson uses an interview Happiness interview: Hope Edelman and a movie scene from the movie Bucket List to sparkle a conversation about happiness. I used with my conversation last week. It generated a meaningful discussion totally moving away from typical bookish somewhat shallow exchange of ideas. The Happiness project is on my blogroll for several reasons. First, it provides me with simple,useful insights on how to pursue my individual happiness. Second, I always find interesting material to use in my classes. Finally, I like the easy to follow, light view on life.

1. Discuss the questions below in groups
What’s a simple activity that consistently makes you happier?
Is there anything you find yourself doing repeatedly that gets in the way of your happiness?
If you’re feeling blue, how do you give yourself a happiness boost?
Do you have a comfort activity?
Have you ever been surprised that something you expected would make you very happy, didn’t – or vice versa?
Have you ever brought joy into someone's life?

The ancient Egyptians had a beautiful belief about death. When their souls got to the entrance to heaven the gods asked them two questions. Their answers determined whether they were admitted or not.
